Job Description

This position is responsible for planning, preparation, and delivery of nourishing meals to residents in consultation with a registered dietician. Other duties may be assigned, and the employer reserves the right to change or reassign job duties or combine positions at any time.
The employee in this position will be a detail-oriented team contributor with strong enthusiasm and a passion for learning who is able to excel with minimal supervision. In addition to possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills, the employee should have excellent listening comprehension, including the ability to understand complex written and verbal instruction. Because of the nature of the information with which the employee will be working, this position does require a high degree of confidentiality. This employee will work directly under the assigned Adult Residential Program Supervisor. Clearly understanding the agency mission, goals, and direction as set by the Board of Directors is essential.  Developing a clear understanding of the agency philosophy and the directions of the supervisor and supporting his/her direction is required. The employee must function well in a political environment where critical management decisions are made on an ongoing basis and be able to interact in this intense environment in a courteous and professional manner with tact and poise. The employee will need to perform a variety of important sometimes urgent, confidential and complex tasks with constantly changing priorities. The employer reserves the right to change or reassign job duties or combine positions.
Essential duties and responsibilities of this position:
  • Responsible for following and serving menus as set up by registered dietician.
  • Responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory and storing provisions, which includes preparing supply orders, keeping track of stock supplies, and rotating stock.
  • Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance standards necessary to meet required health standards.
  • Follows all local, state, and federal policies regarding food handling.
  • Uses safe and proper techniques to prepare, measure and mix ingredients, and uses proper cooking techniques for all types of food as needed.
  • Uses appropriate portion control and follows standardized recipes.
  • Monitors and documents the temperature of food.
  • Completes food prep work for the next day.
  • Washes, cleans, sanitizes, sweeps, mops, and thoroughly cleans kitchen, prep areas, and equipment according to established schedules.
  • Maintains refrigerators, ovens, and all other equipment which is used in performance of job tasks.
  • Demonstrates positive relational skills with individuals served.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience

Language abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively, regularly, and fluently in English; bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities are preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals,
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients in the cafeteria.
Physical demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The employee may move between agency buildings, from office to office, to enable conferring with other staff members or clients.
  • Ability to go into the community to purchase groceries or other supplies from local vendors.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • The ability to move within and between agency buildings, standing, sitting, lifting and manipulating objects typically found in the work environment.
  • The staff member may be required to work at any agency building as needed/directed and be responsible for own transportation.
  • The staff member will be scheduled based on agency need.
  • The ability to comply with the agency’s infection control policies and procedures including the Exposure Control plan which reflects OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Ensure the agency is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner by adhering to the agency’s attendance policies.
  • May be required to meet with clients and/or other staff throughout the agency’s facilities.
  • The incumbent must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.
  • Incumbents within this position may be required to assist or find appropriate assistance to make accommodations for individuals with disabilities in order to ensure access to the organization's services (may include: visitors, patients, employees, or others).
Qualification requirements -
  • One (1) year of experience in the field of Dietary Services and quantity/quality meal preparations. 
  • Must have or will obtain ServSafe Certification within three (3) months of hire
