Job Description

Community & Family Resources (CFR) is an agency that assists individuals and families with substance abuse and gambling addictions and mental health needs. CFR has an in-patient treatment facility and an in-patient adolescent treatment facility, both located in Fort Dodge. CFR also has outpatient offices located in Fort Dodge, Ames, Webster City, Boone, Clarion, Humboldt, Pocahontas and Rockwell City. Our staff have the opportunity to provide support at many different levels with adults, as well as youth.

We are seeking a Peer Recovery Coach for our Adult Residential facility in Fort Dodge. This individual serves as an advocate for consumers/families and their wellness, recovery and services. This employee will assist in the design, implementation and evaluation of programs that support consumers/families with substance abuse use and/or co-occuring disorders. This employee will provide education about wellness and recovery, utilizing his/her own unique insights based on personal experience. This individual will assist the clinical team in identifying evidence-based/best practice models that are conducive to wellness and recovery. Peer Support Coaches are required to abide by all applicable federal, state and local regulations affecting mental health, substance abuse and problem gambling services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

Assists consumers and family members in understanding and accessing services
Provides peer support and education to consumers and family members
Attends conferences and team meetings as needed
Develops and facilitates support groups and classes as directed
Maintains documentation of contacts, activities and units utilized for billing purposes
Assists consumers in articulating personal recovery and wellness goals by creating their Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP)
Assists consumers in building social skills
Assists with consumers' education and/or employment goals and/or supported employment

Skills & Experience

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

The ability to maintain the confidentiality of client information as mandated by various federal and state laws
The ability to understand all policies/procedures and the ability to reference them from the agency's manuals
The ability to comply with the agency's infection control polices/procedures including the Exposure Control plan which reflects OSHA Bloodborne pathogens standard to ensure a safe work environment for self and others
Due to the variety of changing tasks, the individual will need to be flexible and assist in other duties as assigned
The ability to prepare clear and concise records and prepare regular and special written and oral reports
Ability to analyze problems presented and to develop and implement effective courses of action, and possess good verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to manage multiple tasks at the same time.
Must have knowledge and adhere to 42CFR and how it applies to CFR, and knowledge of HIPPA rules and regulations and IDPH licensure standards
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal and good listening skills
Must have positive attitude that communicates hope and the possibility of wellness and recovery and the ability to model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies
Ability to maintain ethical boundaries with consumers
Ability to utilize lived recovery experience and model the value of wellness and recovery
Must be familiar with computers and standard word processing

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPRERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED, AND
Graduate of Recovery Coach Academy Training approved by Iowa's managed behavioral health care provider (e.g., Georgia model, Iowa Peer Support Training Academy, or the Connecticut Communities for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) Model), AND
Lived or experience with substance use and/or gambling disorder issues, AND
A valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance is required if transporting clients
