Job Summary:  The purpose of this position is to provide prevention and educational services for CFR in accordance with approved grants and contracts for services with funding agencies, under the direction of the Prevention Supervisor.  Other duties may be assigned.  The employee in this position will be an enthusiastic, detail-oriented team and individual contributor with a passion for learning who is able to excel with minimal supervision.  In addition to possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills, the employee should have excellent listening comprehension, including the ability to understand complex written and verbal instruction. This employee will work directly under the Prevention Supervisor.  Clearly understanding the agency mission, goals, and direction as set by the Board of Directors is essential.  Developing a clear understanding of the agency philosophy, the directions of the Prevention Supervisor, and supporting his/her direction is required.  The employee must function well in the local political environment in a courteous, professional manner with tact and poise. Travel throughout the counties served will be expected. Public speaking is an important part of the position.  The employee in this position will need to participate in community advocacy and be able to identify the key stakeholders in each community. The employee will perform a variety of important sometimes urgent, confidential and complex tasks with frequently changing priorities. Skills & Experience

The Prevention Specialist position requires:

· Experience passing policy
· Ability to work varying hours
· Must become a Certified Prevention Specialist within 18 months from date of hire
· Travel within all counties served (Story, Boone, Calhoun, Webster, Wright, Humboldt, Pocohontas, and Hamilton)
· Satisfactory background check and pre-employment drug screen required

Qualified candidates will have:
· Bachelor’s degree in Education, Community Health, degree in Nursing or closely related experience with a minimum of two years experience in education, training, public relations, or community activism, or a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services with three years work experience in a human service agency
· Knowledge in prevention theory, problem gambling and substance abuse, and public relations
· Valid driver’s license with own transportation and automobile insurance
