Job Description

The purpose of this position is to assist the clinical counseling staff and medical staff with providing addiction rehabilitation services to individuals with substance use issues and their families/concerned persons.
The employee in this position will be an enthusiastic, detail-oriented team and individual contributor with a strong passion for learning who is able to excel with minimal supervision.  In addition to possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills, the employee should have excellent listening comprehension, including the ability to understand complex written and verbal instruction.  Because of the nature of the information with which the employee will be working, this position requires a high degree of confidentiality. Clearly understanding the agency mission, goals, and direction as set by the Board of Directors is essential. Developing a clear understanding of the agency philosophy and the directions of the individual’s supervisor and supporting his/her direction is required.  The employee must function well in a sometimes stressful work environment where critical management decisions are made on an ongoing basis and be able to interact in this intense environment in a courteous and professional manner with tact and poise.  The employee will need to perform a variety of important sometimes urgent, confidential and complex tasks with constantly changing priorities. Client services -                                                                                                                      
  • May assist clients in completion of necessary assessment forms/documents as needed.
  • Orients clients to program services.
  • Provides oversight and monitoring of clients’ whereabouts and behaviors.
  • Offers clients feedback and support
  • Reports client issues to staff.
  • Assists with light housekeeping duties, including shredding, trash, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and other areas as assigned.
  • Answers the phone and forwards calls as needed.
  • Assist with transportation of clients to scheduled appointments, planned activities, or as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assists with searching client belongings.
  • Assists with rounds of the facility.
  • Assists with follow up surveys and entering data.
Cognitive skills and abilities -
  • Ability to apply previous experience and/or training to assist in the provision of substance use treatment services.
  • The ability to establish good working relationships with clients and staff.
  • Ability to discern and report relevant client information to clinical staff for appropriate management of client care.
  • Ability to maintain clear boundaries between client care and their role as a treatment specialist.
  • Ability to complete written reports and form completion in a timely manner and accurate manner as needed.
  • Must possess basic computer skills and the ability to document client information, as requested or required into the computer system.
  • Due to the variety of changing tasks, the individual will need to be flexible and assist in other duties as assigned.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain the confidentiality of client information as mandated by various federal and state laws.
  • The ability to understand all policies and procedures and the ability to reference them from the agency’s manuals.
  • The ability to comply with the agency’s infection control policies and procedures including the Exposure Control plan which reflects OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Ensure the agency is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner by adhering to the agency’s attendance policies.

Skills & Experience

Education and/or experience -
  • Holder of a High School or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Holder of Medication Management Certification or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
  • A valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance is required
Language abilities -
  • Ability to communicate effectively, regularly, and fluently in English; bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities are preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals,
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or agency employees.
