At Community & Family Resources (CFR), our staff has the opportunity to provide support at many different levels with youth as well as adults.  Our teams at CFR consist of highly qualified and motivated staff that has a passion for working with people and specifically assisting those who have or have had a struggle with substance use and the disease of addiction.  Many of the people we serve have also struggled with poor decision making, legal issues, homelessness, mental health disorders, health issues, financial issues, and family issues leaving them with minimal support.  Our team at CFR works together to provide support and instill hope for the people we work with.  We provide education regarding alternatives that are available and the hope of achieving a healthy and happy lifestyle.  
 
CFR is currently seeking a Residential Counselor for our Adult Residential Unit for Women at our newly opened Central Campus in Fort Dodge.  The hours for this position are Tuesday - Saturday with one evening required. This individual will provide chemical dependency and gambling treatment service to individuals with substance abuse and/or gambling disorder and their families including assessment, individual/family treatment, group treatment, education/prevention services and support services. 
 
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
  • It is the requirement of the position that the employee will seek certification as a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC) and Certified Gambling Treatment Counselor (CGTC) and subsequently an International Alcohol and Drug Counselor (IADC) a soon as the person can meet the qualifications per the Iowa Board of Certification standards
  • Due to extenuating circumstances, an extension may be approved by the Executive Director
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Completion of an approved substance abuse training program OR
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited educational institution, preferably in the social or behavioral sciences and with the necessary courses to meet certification standards below OR
  • At least three (3) years' experience as a full-time substance abuse and/or gambling treatment counselor AND
  • Holder of a substance abuse or gambling treatment counseling certification, i.e. CADC, CGTC or IADC from the Iowa Board of Certification or a state that has reciprocity AND
  • Currently maintain active status as a nationally certified gambling counselor or an Iowa-certified gambling counselor OR
  • Have received a minimum of 30 hours of training or education related to problem gambling within the previous 24 months and are working toward certification within a maximum of 24 months as a nationally certified gambling counselor or an Iowa-certified gambling counselor OR
  • Currently maintain active status as a licensed or certified practitioner in a counseling-related field and have received a minimum of 20 hours of training or education related to problem gambling within the previous 24 months
 
 
 
 
 

Skills & Experience

JOB DUTIES:
  • Assists clients in completion of necessary assessment forms/documents
  • Conducts individual assessment sessions for completion of psychosocial histories of clients
  • Participates with Program Supervisor in development of recommendations for clients
  • Prepares and distributes assessmet results, reports, etc., as required and requested
  • Assists in other assessment processes a required and requested
  • Participates in coordination of community awareness programs concerning substance abuse and problem gambling
  • Provides community education about substance abuse and problem gambling when consistent with program philosophy and personal expertise
